Work began with a pick pass of the entire trench, moving from north to south. Soil appears to be slightly darker brown than before and contains some smaller roots and rocks; this may indicate that we are approaching the bottom of the dirt dump and are starting to reveal the humous layer lying below the dirt dump. Additionally, there seems to be fewer tiles and ceramics recovered. Soil continues to be shoveled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow. While sorting through a bucket from the northern meters of the trench, a sherd of slipped pottery (Find #1) was found.

A second pick pass was made of the entire trench, once again working from north to south. Soil is a slightly darker brown than before and contains some white inclusions, along with smaller rocks and rots. Soil is shoveled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow. While relatively high quantities of tile and pottery were recovered, there was noticeable less tile than in previous pick passes. This may indicate that we have

reached a new soil; the presence of small grass roots and small rocks may indicate that we have reached the original ground line and humous layer that predates the dirt dump. During this pick pass, a frieze plaque fragment (Find #2) was found.

Once soil from this pick pass was removed and sorted, it was decided to trim the baulk walls, in order to better see a coming soil change.

Work continued by continuing to trim the baulk walls, so that we may better see a soil change. Soil, which is all from Locus 1, was shoveled into buckets in the trench and sorted over the wheelbarrow. Relatively high quantities of tile and ceramics were recovered.

Once baulk walls were trimmed, we removed some soil from around the stump in the sw corner of the trench. Additionally, we began to axe through a portion of the stump, in order to remove it more easily in the future.
