Work continued in CD12 A. Because rocks were encountered Wednesday, we trowelled, instead of picking and risking missing the road surface. As the morning progressed, a layer of stones like and in line with that in CD 12 began to appear/ We revealed it with trowels and brushes. A piece of iron was found (

Trowelling continued in the hopes of reaching the road throughout the trench and closing CD 12 A by the day's end. The road surface was revealed and photographed (
). Elevations were as follows:
SW 99.5 cm BD 26.405m ae
NW 103 cm BD 26.37m ae
NE 122 cm BD 26.18m ae
SE 127 cm BD 26.37m ae
Center 117.5 cm BD 26.225m ae
yielded 57 sherds of pottery today -- including 1 tondo, 1 handle, and 12 rims -- and 3/4 of a bowl of terra cotta. CD12 A was closed at the end of the work day. CD12 B will be opened on Monday.
