T6E (2) Stratem G
Work continued on the circular area of black earth described on page 183 ( ). The area inside the red ring was excavated layer by layer. the first layer produced only small fragments of pottery and bones of small to medium sized animals (e.g. sheep). the second layer was much the same except that, in addition to fragments, a very crumbly but almost complete stem from a buccher oid stemmed cup was found. Small fragments of thin pottery as well as coarser pots continued to be found. N.B. No tiles were found within the area of black earth on this day. As the day was coming to an end we began a third layer extending to a depth of 45-50 centimeters below the excavated surface of T6E (2). the entire area excavated this day in this layer appeared to be a layer of broken pottery including a large pot with numerous circular holes in its sides. On the facing page, see the map and sketch plan for the location of this area and a sketch of the circle at a depth of 30 cm below the excavated level of T6E (2). in the map there is indicated in pencil the position of the stones shown on page 152 .

In view of the short time left of the excavation season a new cut was made with the intention of tracing the S wall. This cut extends 5.60 m to the E and has a width (N-S) of 7m. (grid F-2). With this extension the combined line of the trenches T6C-D and F extends ca 1m (not more) further to the E on Piano del Tesoro than the Tesoro 1 complex. Already when topsoil was taken off it became obvious that walls would be difficult to ascertain. Several formations of large stones were noticed, which seemed to be in line with the S wall, or even from an angle to it. Small scattered stones appear all over in the topsoil and the 2nd layer.
