July 20, 1988

The second cut into the plaster layer was continued in P 64, R 64 and R 63. Pottery was abundant, while tile and pithos frags were mostly found  in Q 65-64. In R 64 two rocchetti were found and also incised pottery and lid fragments as well as a bronze fragment. The stump in Q 63 was removed (from this stump 2 boxes of pottery was found).

1 cassetta of tile and plaster was found from this whole area. 1 1/2 box of pottery form P 64, R 63-64 was found.

Since very few tiles were found apart from the eastern end of P-R 64, the rest of the cut (depth 0.80m) was excavated. A few fragments of pithos were brought down to the magazzino. 1 cassetta of plaster and 3 1/2 boxes for mixed pottery ( bucchero, fairly abundant) were found. Most of the finds came from Q-R 64. The tile and pithos fragments in P-R 65-64 still needs to be cleaned and photographed.

The soil in this cut is slightly different from the soil in P-R 65-71 at depth 0.80m: plaster and burnt material is less abundant. The soil in P 63 and P-R 62 was more sandy and yellowish-greyish than the rest of the soil.
