A.M.

Work continued clearing the backfill off of the floor in the eastern end in preparation for initiating new cuts to the east and north. At this end of the building the floor remains in apparently far better condition than to the west. ["east end" equals area to the east of the footprints tiles, "west end" that area to the west and T-25]. Overall there seemed to be deeper backfill to the east which prevented the roots of small plants and grass from penetrating the floor which happened to the west of T-26. In meters YZ/60-61 the floor was actually exposed and showed great deterioration.

To the far east of T-26 backfill continued to be removed from the protective plastic over both the floor (moving west) and to the east (over the area which was thought to lie outside the east end of the building at the end of the building). Again a few fragments of terracotta, plaster and tile were removed.

P.M.

Work continued concentrating on the east end. Similar

chunks of terracotta, plaster and ceramics were recovered. In meters JK/92-3 where backfill was mixed with washout and soil from the area where robbers had been poking around. In this area a number of interesting finds came out including what may be part of an iron fibula clasp and pieces of ionic bowl. Additionally a small bronze tack was found while excavating the column base in meter MN/85.
