A.M.

A cut was begun in meter G/48 to a depth of ca. 55 cm.  This area had been previously excavated to a depth of ca. 45 cm. las tyear.  The soil in the cut was grey brown in color and contained sporadic pockets of disintegrated carbon.  One quarter of a cassetta of tile and one hald of a box of mixed pottery, including several pieces of bucchero, were recovered from the cut.

A fourth cut was also begun in meters G/42-43 to a depth of ca. 45 cm.  The soil in the cut consisted of the same light brown "clayey" soil enountered before in this area.  Only a few worn pieces of tile and pottery were recovered from the cut.

The cut begun this morning in meter G/48 was completed and extended west into meter G/47.  The soil remained grey brown in color and continued to produce sporadic concentrations of carbon.  One quarter of a cassetta of worn pieces of tile and three quarters of a box of mixed pottery, again including some bucchero, were recovered from the cut.

Work also continued in meters G/42-43.  Following the discovery of several large pieces of tile, it was decided to clear with mestaline and brushes.  Several large pieces of pantile have been exposed, but further work wil be necessary to determine whether thye form part oa f aconcentration.  In addition, this area of the

trench remains rather wet, so work proceeded slowly.  THe soil was light brown in color and of a clay like consistency.  Only a few, small pieces of tile and worn pottery were found  in this clay like soil.

Finally, clearing with mestaline and brushes also continued to the nroth of the tile concentration in meters H/44-45.  No additional tiles were uncovered during todays work.  The soil here was light brownn in color, but more clay like in consistency than the "sandy" soil to the west.  A few worn pieces of pottery and two pieces of bone were found in this area.
