Daily Log

AM

We began the morning by pickpassing the NE/SE area of the extension.  We had to avoid the NE corner since that is where the rock freature continues.  There were also a couple medium-sized rocks in the SE corner in betwen stump g and stump f (see page 92) that we had to be careful around.  We troweled around the rockes in th NE area.  We cleaned up leaves in the main trench, continued to bring down the southern wall of the main trench, clipped roots of the extension, and worked on baulk walls.

Special find #1  Ridged Pottery sherd.  Locus 5.  151.36E; 95.26S  22.49 m AE

There is a lot of pottery coming from the NE area.

While troweling and scraping in the extension more rocks were uncovered in the NE area and along the Southern wall of the main trench.

We made a very shallow pickpass in the NW/SW/Center of the extension in the areas where rocks where not appearing.  After the pickpass, we cleaned and sifted the material and troweled through to the rocks in the extension.  We are continuing to find much pottery in the NE area of the extension as we did yesterday.

We are scraping and troweling the extension area to level and expose rocks.  Once the area is level we will combine Locus 2 of the Main trench and Locus 5 of the extension into Locus 6.

We are finding more bone in Locus 2, Center, (where the Southern wall used to be) within the rocks.

Special find #4  Medieval pottery sherd w/ slip.  Locus 5.  152.66E; 56.00S  22.45 m AE

Special find #5  Half of a Rochetto 2 pieces/ancient break 20070099

Locus 2  151.75E; 94.05S  22.41 m AE

We finished the afternoon continuing to level the extension and define any rocks.

Most of the pottery (about 3 boxes) came from the NE corner.  Also, the majority of the bone came form this area as well.  However some also came from the center  (Southern) part of the main trench.
