Introduction
The purposes of excavating T28 south are four-fold.A magnotometer survey opf the area indicated a magnetic spike at 90S 195-198E, so thje trench was opened to encapsulate as much of the area as possible to and attempt to determine its cause. The foremost possibility is a kiln, which is also another reason for excavating this area since no kiln has been located yet. Most likely, the Orientalizing workshop in T26 had a kiln nearby ( who wants to carry 30 lb. bricks very far?) the thought is that if a kiln is present, it would be located on the slope south of the workshop. Locating a kiln here might have maximized the use of the daily breeze that crosses the hill for obtaining higher firing temperatures. Also, a tile fall for the south half of the workshop has never been located, so perhaps it fell down the slope or eroded to the bottom. If possible, determining the slope of the hill during the use phase of the building would be beneficial in determining future areas of excavation and ancient facctors in determining use locations.
The trench area is 12 square meters with the corners at 88S 195E\xa3, 91S 195E, 91S 199E, and 88S 199E. A datum point was placd in a tree located near meter 91S 197E and is 23 cm above the soil. The dirt dump is located at the old dirt dump for T27 . The trench is excavated in conjuntion with T28 North , TBK 2, which was also located along magnotometer survey results and openedd for similar purposes., Relevent trench books to this area are
