STRATEGY: Continue removing 2016 and 2017 until trenches 446N, 596E and 451N, 596E are on the same level.
SUMMARY: Small find 7- a black burnished pot disc was found within lot 2017 at 447.78N, 597.82E at a height of 94.69m (see sketch). Lots 2016 and 2017 were completely removed to create a level surface across trenches 446N, 596E and 451N, 596E. A darker, more crumbly fill was foud to abut f263- this was also removed as lot 2020. Now the trenches are level they can be resprayed with water in order to ascertain if the soil marks discerned in trench 451N, 596E on 3 Aug 98 extend into trench 446N, 596E.
