(CA 1 topsoil) Due to the dampness of the ground it was decided to continue the excavated area further E towards the agger, cleaning topsoil until the lower soil was workable. The excavated area was extended 8.30 m E, the topsoil producing a fragment of frieze with a guilloche above, a possible horse's hoof, a fragment with a hand, and many fragments of tiles.
Further towards the agger, a fragment of a cornice was found (X-15), and a curved, unidentified fragment. Four boxes of tiles were cleared form this area, and 2/3 of a
box of pottery. The section was then staked out to extend 6m N along the agger from the previous N border at a width of 8.30 m, and clearing of the topsoil was begun. [NW]

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.
The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
