Further digging clarified the pattern of the stones and produced about half the face from a gorgon antefix at 6.50 m S.

TI, Test Trench 8

As the trench reached the southwest return, small amounts of carbon and a few fragments of large pots appeared.  The possibility thus aros that a continuation of the stratum under the pavement in TI 6 ( see TG II, p. 83-111 ) had been found.

TI, Test Trench 9

A new trench corresponding exactly to TT 8 was laid out along the outside of the north wall ( see sketch, p. 38 ) in order to see if the projections of stone along the

south wall would be duplicated.  Initial digging, however, produced a solid bed of stones just under the surface.  These  were broken only when the trench cut across Test Trench 2 ( see SC I p. 69 ) where previous excavation had already revealed similar stones.
