7am-12 pm

Tools: trowels, dustpan, buckets, brushes, wheelbarrow

Soil: gray/brown claylike

Passes: no real passes - removing tile

Took opening elevations then photographed the trench for the tile spreads.  REmoving tiles has revealed another layer underneath.  Will remove all the tile to reveal the surface it is laying on.  Thoruout the trench threr are sporadic pieces of terracottta - they will be removed and then the rest of the trench will likely be picked through until/unless more terracotta is revealed.  Because the tree will remain the SE measurement has been moved 110 cm to the West.

Continue taking out terractotta from tile spreads.  There is a large conglomeration of fused together tile that is being left in because the fabric is too crumbly and it appears that part of it is in the baulk wall.  Pick axed through center 1/3 of the trench.  With the tile spread removed Locus 4 is closed and Locus 5 wil begin on Monday.
