I. Introduction

During 2010 a large part of the Poggio Civitate hill was cleared of forest, opening up the possibility of exploring areas not previously excavated, especially in the Civitate B (CB) area. Initially three exploratory trenches were opened in CB ( CB-35 , and ), the first of which seems to have some archaeological potential. CB-38 was opened in order to create a clearer picture of the history of the area immediately surrounding CB-35 (see ).

The primary purpose of the trench is to attempt to identify activity contemporary with the Orientalizing complex and the Archaic building on Piano del Tesoro. Additionally the goal of the trench is to improve our understanding of the topography and stratigraphy of the area as well as the general history of the site.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
