This morning a datum point was established (in a tree) and then created Locus 1, which covers the entire area of the trench (51S160E, 51S162E, 54S160E, 54S162E) and the following points were taken:

Point Corodinate (m) Depth(cm)

1. 51S162E 14

2. 51.17S 161.83E 3.7

3. 51S 160E 32.5

4. 54S 160E 31

5. 54S 162E 14.5

6. 51.46S 161.66E 16.5

7. 51.50S 161.20E 28.5

8. 52.39S 161.70E 24

9. 53.55S 161.71E 23.5

10. 53.25S 160.22E 33.5

11. 51.72S 160.57E 32

After the first couple of measurements, the datum point was considered too high and so lowered 46cm the depths above (incorporate) reflect this adjustment. The datum point is in meter 51S162E, which is just east of the trench. The trench appears to have been possibly levelled at some point previously from west to east and stopping just short of the datum point tree.

The trench is basically flat the entire length and breadth until the last eastern 1/2 meter, where the surface rises sharply approximately 20 cm over a distance of approximately 30 cm.  Then the vegitation was removed.  Also, photos were taken.

PM

A 10 cm cut was begun, covering approximately 1/2 meter in length and the entire width of the trench.  The slope was also dug up and proved to be almost entirely dirt, with a large amount of roots and trace amounts of pottery and terracotta.  1/2 a latte box of bulk pottery and 1/4 cassetta of terracotta were found.  There were no special finds.
