While this year's excavations of the south slope did not meet any of the goals spelled out for this season, especially in not being able to trace the tile spread, it was able to proove that the tile spread did not continue to the east in the direction originally projected. Further investigation should be continued in the area, but for this season investigations will turn elsewhere. The evidence that was uncovered in the area was somewhat intriguing- especially the apparent presence of wasters in the area, perhaps signifying a kiln or other ceramic production in the area. Future exploration of the area will be most interesting for the forth goal of the season- one which was to find evidence of industrial activity in the area. Only future trenches can unearth the full extent of activity in the area.

After closing the trench, it was disovered that there was a discrepancy in laying out the trenches. The T-40 trenches had been established with eastern coordinated of 5 meters too low. Thus the T-40B trench is located at 202-204 east and not 197-199. This trench book has been edited for this mistake.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
