Pottery Analysis:

A fair amount of pottery was recovered in CA 64 during the 2010 season; in total there were 2,268 fragments. Comparatively, neighboring CA 62 from the 2009 season had 769 fragments of pottery.

Locus 2 contained the most pottery, at 1,521 sherds. Impasto was the most found type, at 1,771 sherds. Of the total 2,268 fragments, 9 were cataloged.

among many others cataloged and uncataloged, reinforces that occupation on Civitate A extends back into the Villanovan period. The stamped bucchero fragment, 20100025

, and stamped impasto fragment, 20100015

, are typologically similar to others in the area ( 20090016

), indicating activity occurring at the same time period. The discovery of Medieval pottery, though not cataloged, indicates human presence through the Medieval period. Other cataloged finds further reinforce these conclusions and do not provide any additional information.
