Cassette of tile: 1 (40% plaster)
Boxes of pottery: 1
Work was continued in the easternmost section of the trench, cleaning off the "floor." A lot of the soil just above the "floor" was burned - especially in gamma-epsilon/57. A fair amount of pottery (50-50 coarseware-bucchero) was found today. Most of the bucchero was found approximately 20 cm above the "floor" in epsilon/58.
A suprising amount of tile was found in the thin layer just above the "floor." The three tiles lying on the "floor" in gamma/57-58 actually appear to be four tiles - an incomplete one, two complete ones, and another incomplete one, lying end to end in a line that is parallel to the rows of column bases. The "tiles" are 25 cm wide and approximately (from the two complete middle ones) 58 cm long. One fragment was lifted, and the tiles appear to be flat slabs
of terracotta. A line of loosely placed rocks sitting on the "floor" forms a type of wall running north-south in gamma-epsilon/58.
