Daily Log

July 8, 1998

Continued removing the yellowish-brown (Locus 31) soil in order to expose the darker brown soil beneath.  The yellow soil was completely removed and the level of the trench varied from 53-60 cm b.d.

The material recovered from the yellowish brown soil consisted of 1/3 of a latte box of pottery and bone, along with 21 very small bits of terracotta.  Also found were a bucchero tondo fragment (#1), an impasto rim with ridged decoration (#2), and a possible fragment of a finestrated coarseware vessel (#3).

Work was then begun removing the darker brown soil.  In meters E138-139/S24, there is a thick layer of pinkish plaster.  Work was directed so as to expose this plaster and discover the extent of the plaster fall.  Similar areas of plaster were noted on the floor of the OC3 building last season (see {page not noted} in AMC V ).  This work in the darker brown soil with frequent carbon inclusions (Locus 32) produced 1 full latte box of pottery and bone, as well as 16 fragments of tile and plaster, including two small sections of pantile with flanges.  Also found were two fragments of incised pottery,

one bucchero (#4) and one impasto (#5).

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
