STRATEGY: Continue definition of f273.
SUMMARY: By the end of 27 Aug 98 all of f268 within 0.5m of the E baulk had been defined and 2025 removed to a point west of the E baulk. Most of 2025 shared the characteristics of the excavated material noted earlier; light brown, friable pise rubble with low artefact content. Close to the southern wall, however, the matrix density increased, suggesting the presence of a packed rubble deposit adjacent to the feature. The relationship of f268 to f274 remains unclear and will probably require definition of the exterior wall of f268 in the adjacent area. Scraping of the remaining surface of 2025 identified a possible intrusive pit cutting into the portion of the tholos adjacent to the E baulk, which will require further evaluation on 29 Aug. Additionally, a series of 'red lines' noted on this and the adjacent surface appeared more clearly. They may represent coloured plaster faces of the tholos entrance and thus contribute to further definition of the architecture in this vicinity.
