Daily Log 23/7/14
23/7/14 AM Work began in the trench again. Locus 8 and 11 were picked and soil sorted. Locus 8 is still a yellow brown soil with pockets of a flakey rock present. Locus 11 is a clay like soil. The soil is locus 9 was scraped and the rocks were defined. Another set of pick passes were done in locus 8 and 11 . Tile and pottery were recovered in both loci. Another pick pass was done in the loci. Locus 8 continues to be the same type of soil. Locus 11 is starting to become narrower as more rocks are becoming exposed along the boundaries of the locus. During the pick pass several roots were cut out. While picking a yellow mottled soil was tuned up among the rocks in the lower part of the trench. While cleaning up locus 8 a fragment of cut bone was recovered (SF #1).Special Find #1 Cut Bone 20140067 Locus 8 29.18 mAE 95.34 E, 34.21 S
Another pick pass was done throughout locus 8. Several large rocks were uncovered in the middle of the locus. A large patch of flakey soil was found in the northern part of locus 8. The soil was sorted and dumped. While emptying a bucket a possible statue fragment was found (SF #2). The floor of locus 9 was scrapped and leveled to better define the rocks and patches of soil present. Locus 11 was picked again and cleaned. There are more rocks appearing in the lower part of locus 11. We will switch from large picks to smaller ones to allow us to clear between the rocks. We have continued to clear in locus 11 and defined the rocks along the board. The rocks along the northern boundary appear to be slopping down into locus 11 and imbedded in a yellow mottled soil. The rocks along the southern boundary appears to abut the locus without a slope.
