STRATEGY: Remove f250's tauf superstructure as lot 2010. Remove f262 as lot 2011. Level area to northeast of trench as lot 2012 in order to bring trench 446N, 596E closer in height to 451N, 596E.

SUMMARY: F250's tauf superstructure was removed to reveal a stone foundation continuing from that established in trench 501N, 596E to the north. F262 proved to consist of a hard, packed earth layer with drying cracks, which flaked off as polygonal shapes. Beneath this was a layer of plaster 2-5cm thick. Under that was a soft, powdery tauf derived deposit of a red brown colour. In the southwestern portion of f262 both the packed earth first layer and the final layer of tauf derived soft earth appeared darker in colour (brownish black) as if they had been burnt. Removal of 2012 revealed an ashy lens within the mid brown tauf deived deposit extending over the northern half of 446N, 596E. The lens was located around 501N, 599E, was about 5-8cm thick and consisted of a dark grey brown crumbly deposit with a few flecks of charcoal.
