Continued to define the surface of Locus 4. Encountered a few patches of hard-packed, darker grey dirt in the vicinity of the intersection of the four square meters of the eastern half of the trench. Removed a small (less than 10 cm diameter) patch of this soil, which revealed a few pieces of terracotta. Left the rest of this soil type, which is difficult to see in direct sunlight and seems to be present on in small patches, undisturbed until its extent can be determined.

Decided that the above-mentioned, hard-packed dark-grey soil is in fact another component of the presumed archaic surface designated Locus 4. It was therefore left undisturbed except in cases where very small ammounts were removed in order to define an artifact.
Continued to remove Locus 3 soil and swept down the trench, This closes Locus 3.
Find Totals, Locus 3:
- 1 1/2 latte boxes terracotta
- 64 sherds pottery
- 1 small piece of carbon
