Work began with a general cleaning of the surface of the center of the trench. We did this with trowels. Once we were finsihed it was easier to distinguish betwen the soft, clayey , cleaner soil of Trench 6. We then began to remove this fill with pick and shovel.
On the east and west ends of the trench we trimmed the bauilks. On the west side this produced one half of a liter box of tile and two sherds of pottery. On the east side this produced on half of a liter latte box of tile and one sherd of pottery.
Pick and shovel work in the H-I/23-24 backfill of T& produced less than 1/8 a cassette of tile and a few sherds of pottery. Depth excavated was approx. 5-10 cm.
