A.M. 29 June 2009
T-51 was opened this morning. The surface layer was designated
, co-ordinate measurements were taken along with photos. The soil of this locus ranges from dark brown to brown with organics mixed in.Opening co-ordinates:
47.6-S/177.4-E = 45 cm. below datum point, 27.85 m. above absolute elevation
47.6-S/180.1-E = 37 cm. below datum point, 27.93 m. above absolute elevation
49.2-S/180.1-E = 30 cm. below datum point, 28.00 m. above absolute elevation
49.2-S/177.1-E = 25 cm. below datum point, 28.05 m. above absolute elevation
Before T-51 was opened organics were trimmed from the top surface and the west and south scarps were cleaned, removing backfill soil and spill from higher up. From the cleaning approxiamtely a dozen small pieces of terracotta were recovered along with five sherds of pottery and two fragments of bone. See page 17 for opening diagram of trench.

Excavation by trowel was begun in the morning and continued into the afternoon. The trench
was lowered less than 5 cm. today. The main objective in excavation today was to begin the removal of the large tree trunk located in the center of the trench. Approximately 1/3 bowl of small well-worn fragments of terracotta was recovered along with five sherds of pottery and two fragments of bone.
