Over the previous 2 days, brush was cleared from the trench. Today the trench was drawn, photos taken, elevations recorded, and Locus 1 was declared open over the entire trench. Locus 1 is a dark-brown organic rich humus layer with lots of rocks and roots. There are several small stumps in the trench, a medium stump on the western baulk, and a large stump along the northern baulk. There were many surface rocks that were drawn and then removed to the rock dump 3 meters from the northwestern corner of the trench. The northern meter was picked and sorted by hand. Rocks were uncovered, but no terracotta or ceramics. The next meter south was then picked and sorted into buckets and dumped into buckets. A little tile was found. Another meter was picked. Soil was sorted into buckets and dumped. While cleaning up, large rocks were found in the east and medium sized rocks in the west. While cleaning and unusual piece of terracotta was found, possible statue fragment (S.F. #1).

A pick pass was done in the final southern meter of the trench, a little terracotta was found, in the western part of the trench larger rocks were found. Soil was hand sorted and dumped into wheelbarrows. Another pick pass was started in the northern meter of the trench, more roots were clipped and rocks uncovered. Since the pick passes from the morning were deeper in the east than the west due to the roots, the western half of the trench was picked to remove all the high spots. Small terracotta pieces were found during the pick pass in the southern part of the trench. During the following pick pass in the NW portion of the trench no terracotta at all was recovered. It seems that most of the terracotta tile is coming from the southern meters. The rocks were making picking hard so small picks were used to clear the humus layer from them.
