Q-R/54-55 was taken down to roughly 70-80 cm below surface level. This cut was sterile soil. Two pieces of terracotta were found which may be statue fragments.
Work continued at the southern end of T-22. The lowest level in T-22 at this point is 120 cm from surface. This level is being used to define "floor" level in our cut. K-L/54-56 was brought to this level. Soil here was loose, dark brown and full of terracotta and plaster. Two latte boxes of pottery.
Washout in T-22 was removed. Terracotta and plaster were found. Bone and pottery are also present in small quantities. One piece of painted pottery was fuond around G/54.
P.M.
Washout cleanup was continued in T-22. Half a rocchetto was found around I/54. The day's work in this trench produced one latte box of assorted pottery and many architectural tile fragments. M/54-56 was brought down to the level of T-22, 120 cm. K/54 was also brought down to this level.
Soil in this cut was very wet. The burn layer evident in T-22 continues here and produced much carbon.
