It was decided at the inception of the 2000 coampaign of excavation to continue the work carried out in 1999 at South Flank: Extension I (seeand ). The goals of the new work are similar to those of the 1999 investigation, but have been enhanced in light of the information obtained from that work.
Previous excavation had been undertaken in this area in 1969 (see). Excavations in the area during the 1999 season were conducted mainly to investigate two sections of wall that are more akin in axis to the tripartite structure OC III, which is located immediately to the west, than to the archaic building, to which they also bear no obvious fuctional relationship. It is possible that the
features in question are part of OC III, or, perhaps more likely, part of an additional building on axis with it. (for OC III, see, ; , .)
It is hoped that a foundation wall or footing trench, perpendicular to the wall section at 159-161 E, 25-32S, will come to light, perhaps clarifying the architefctural situation of these features that most likely belong to the orientalizing phase of the site.
In addition, the 1999 work at Southern Flank: Extension I investigated a tile spread that seems to underlie the foundations of the archaic building. This may indicate a fall from a tile-roofed building in the vicinity, preceding the archaic phase, or may equally represent a deliberate
spread of tiles brought from elsewhere on piano del Tesoro with the intension of creating a level surface for the construction of the archaic building.
For the master grid upon which the new work will be undertaken, see, , and .

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.
The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
