Work resumed in CA 64. Continued to remove the remaining soil from the bedrock sheeting in the southwest corner. Baulk walling being done around whole area of the trench. Soil in the trench consistent with Locus 2 , sorted and removed from trench. Baulk finds collected as baulk trim. In baulk trim recovered rocchetto fragment.

Find 1: Decorated Rocchetto Fragment, 20100016

28.79m A.E.

Baulk Trim

Also in the southwest corner recovered coil made rim fragments.

Find 2: Coil Made Rim Fragments and Associated Pieces, 20100043

28.64m A.E.

Locus 2

Finding slag both in Locus 2 and baulk trim, collected as bulk. Locus 2 has some carbon inclusions. Also digging out Locus 2 beneath and between the stump and tree. Material found and collected as Locus 2. Found fragment of ridged rim in baulk wall.

Find 3: Ridged Rim Fragment

28.72m A.E.

Baulk Trim

Also in baulk wall found rocchetto fragments.

Find 4: Rocchetto Fragments, 20100045

28.73m A.E.

Baulk Trim

In southwest corner continuing to find carbon inclusions, in some instances ¾-1cm in width.

Continued baulk walling. Material being found and collected in steady amounts. In the southwest corner the baulk trim soil appearing more yellow and mottled, though this soil was not found overlying the bedrock in that same corner. Roots clipped and bedrock swept for photographs and opening of Locus 3 . Also removed large rock overlying the bedrock in the southeast corner. In trimming the baulks recovered ridged rim fragment, possibly coil made.

Find 5: Ridged Rim Fragment

28.70m A.E.

Baulk Trim

Final sweeping and root clipping done before declaration of Locus 3 .  Opening photographs and elevations taken:

NW Corner: 28.59m A.E.

NE Corner: 28.56m A.E.

SE Corner: 28.67m A.E.

SW Corner: 28.69m A.E.

Center: 28.59m A.E.

Locus 3 is the bedrock feature with pockets of medium brown claylike soil. The pockets of soil which occur are in the center (where the elevation was taken), the northeast corner, and southeast corner. Soil is being troweled out of those areas, and some material is being found. The center area has a small broken piece of bedrock being troweled under and to be potentially removed. Under this out cropping found a rocchetto fragment.

Find 6: Rocchetto Fragment, 20100021

28.69m A.E.

Locus 3

Soil somewhat carbon included, though not as much as Locus 2 was included. Soil swept and picked up.

Locus 2:

Terra cotta: 2 pieces

Pottery: 29 pieces

Bone: 1 piece

Slag: 6 pieces

Locus 3:

Terra cotta: 2 pieces

Pottery: 7 pieces

Bone: 3 pieces
