Metal Summary

Bronze:

Only a small quantity of bronze was recovered from CA33 1991.  The bronze finds consisted of four fibula pins in varying states of preservation.  These pins displayed no specific pattern of distribution, but rather were found in different areas of the trench.  The most noteworthy of the pins displayed a head tiered in three bronze spheroids and a shaft decorated with a spiralling line encircling it down to the break ( JB, BK III, p.183, 1 ).

Slag:

As was the case last year, numerous pieces of slag were recovered during excavation of CA33 in 1991.  In total, approximately twenty five pieces of slag were found.  These pieces varied in size from very small gragments of ca. 0.004m in length to larger esamples of ca. 0.020 to 0.030 m in length.  All of the larger fragments were bagged separately and listed as finds.

The largest number of fragments were discovered in the stone concentration, particularly in the eastern half of meters I/13-14 and in meters J/13-14.  Smaller quantities

of slag were also found in meters H/14, J/12, G/14, and J/15.  All of the slag fragments from CA33 will be saved for further analysis.

Iron:

No readily identifiable iron fragments were recovered from CA33 in 1991.
