The beginning of the morning was spent clearing grass and soil from the foundations on the north side of the orientalizing structure.

The remainder of the morning was spent working in the area of meters S25-26, E136-140.  The baulks were trimmed and straightened from yesterday's initial cuts, and the stones of the Upper Building well dividing R14 (in meters E139-140 and partially 141) were exposed and defined.  A cut was then made throughout the trench.  The soil remained consistent with that designated as Locus 5, a medium brown mottled soil with sporadic carbon, bits of terracotta and whitish clay-like inclusions.  This work will continue this afternon and pottery and tile will be recorded at that time.

Another cut was taken throughout the trench within the confines of the Upper Building walls.  Depths were taken and it was discovered that the northern portion was approximately 5-6 cm. higher than the southern.  Therefore another cut was taken in the northern half of the trench to create a level floor throughout.  The trench floor is now approximately 55 cm.b.d., with the exception of the areas in the south half of S25 and S26/E136 where a number of medium sized stones were exposed near the surface and left in situ.  1/4 of a little box of pottery and bone, and 15-17 fragments of small tile were recovered in Locus 5.  The Upper Building wall has been designated as Locus 6.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
