Introduction for 1991

CA33 1990 Trench Plan (taken from G. Soderberg 9001)

Excavation of CA33 in 1990 uncovered the remains for bronze production (see p 123-131). However, due to time constraints, the excavation of the feature could not be completed by teh close of the 1990 season.  The excavation of CA33 will therefore be continued in 1991 with the following objectives:

1.  the completed excavation of teh eastern portion of the feature and the obtainment of a stratigraphic section approaching it from the west

2.  continued investigation of teh rock concentration to the northeast of the feature

3.  the possible excavation through the feature's "floor" level and the obtainment of a complete stratigraphic sequence

4.  the continued exploration of the area around the roasting pit in

the hope of finding further evidence of ancient activity, metallurgical or otherwise.

Techniques and Measurements

Depths:  All depths will be recorded in absolute termss as x cms. below datum, which means a fixed point established for the trench (see first day of excavation for actual point).  In addition, approximate below surface depths will be noted where possible.  All depths will be measured with a line level and rule.

Quantities: established procedure is to quantify amounts of pottery by milk carton (latte, latti) and amounts of tile by cassette, cassetti.  Measurements for each are approximate.

latte = 16 cm. by 9 cm. by 5 cm.

cassette = 50 cm. by 34 cm. (interior)

Amounts will be recorded as such and sucha part(s) or a latte/cassette (.5, .25, .75, etc)

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
