The second cut begun Thursday was extended north into meters H/42-43 and meter G/42 to a depth of ca. 25 cm.  At a depth of  ca. 20 cm the soil in the cut turned light brown in color and became sandy in consistency.  Some small chunks of carbonized wood were encountered in this sandy soil.  One half of a cassetta of small pieces of worn tile and plaster and one and a half boxes of mixed pottery, including many burned pieces, were discovered in the sandy soil.  Notable finds

included a piece of ridge pole tile and a fragment of inscribed pan tile.

The second cut was extended into meter G/43 and thereby completed.  The soil in the cut was again light brown in color and of a loose, sandy consistency.  Small carbon chunks were occassionally encountered in the soil.  Approximately one quarter of a cassetta of worn tile and plaster was found in the cut.  One box of pottery of mixed fabric and numerous small pieces of bone were also discovered.  Several of the pottery sherds were blackened from burn.  Three non-descript pieces of bronze were also recovered.

A third cut was then begun, to a dpeth of ca. 45-50 cm, starting in meter I/43.  The same type of light-brown sandy soil was

encountered in this cut.

About one quarter of a cassetta of tile and plaster were found in the cut.  One half of a box of pottery and numerous pieces of bone were also discovered.  Although carbon continued to appear in the soil, it did not seem to be quite as frequent as in the previous cut.
