Daily Log

June 24, 2003

Picking was done over the entire 5 x 5 m area excpet for the southeast corner where the galestra-like soil was already exposed.  It was decided that the "sling stones" were naturally occuring, and so Locus 2 stones that are not excpetional will be counted and disposed of at the end of the day.  Stones on or in the surface of the gylestra-like layer will be left in situ.  The only notable find this morning was a piece of inscribed terracotta.

The floor around the baulk walls was brought down to the level of the rest of the trench.  The light soil was visible, but the dried-out Locus 2 soil made it difficult to trowel and define the contours of the Locus 3 layer.  A piece of plastic will be cut tonight to keep the soil moist from now on.

Locus 2:

  • 343 pieces of terracotta (1/2 bucket)
  • 40 pieces of ceramic (1/3 latte box)
  • 1 piece of plaster
  • 1 piece of inscribed terracotta ( Find 1 )
  • 6 "sling stones"

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
