STRATEGY: Givin indications that f268 may be of greater depth than presently exposed, a small unit will be placed within the pit and taken to a greater depth to evaluate the situation. A new lot 2007, will, be opened for material originating in this 'keyhole'. Backsite: 82

SUMMARY: A 50x30cm keyhole was placed against the southermost edge f268 to a depth of 10cm. The greasy, chunky nature of the fill gradually reduced into a looser, more typically 'pit' fill with a high frequency of ash and carbon. One carbon sample (3) was taken from this area. Although the edge was soft in some places, it remained fairly consistent to the bottom of the unit. A 60L whole earth sample was also removed from this area. Ultimately the keyhole was extended to include a spit running to the N baulk. Material from this spit was similar in content.
