A section of the southern wall of the trench, incorporationg meters T/79-75 was drawn.  A student was instructed in the drawing of sections.

Work continued in meters R-S-T/74 with dental tools at 40-60 cm.  This work did not reveal any finds initially and the soil was then picked and gone through slowly and carefully.

Another cut was begun in meters T/80-82 and continued to meters Q/80-81.  The stones exposed yesterday afternoon in meters R-Q-P/82-81 were left in place.  A large flat stone, incorporated into the "floor" was uncovered in R/81.  This stone appears to be covered with a thin layer of yellow-orange plaster, and is ~2.60 m from the stone in T-S/79 (center to center).

The "floor" rises to ~30 cm in T/80-82, but drops to ~60 cm in R/80.  The stone in R/81 is at ~40-50 cm in depth.  The soil of the cut appears red with specks of plaster and carbon at ~40-60 cm in R-Q/80-82.  Above this is a lighter brown soil.  The tile

seems to be concentrated in the reddish layer and tile was found on the floor itself.  A pan tile fragment on the floor in T/82 was left in place.  Pithos fragments were found today but were not taken down to the magazzino.  The glassy slag that was very prevalent in P-T/74-79 is not very abundant in P-T/80-82.  In meters Q-P/80-82, the cut was raised so as not to go down to the floor.  This was done because the floor drops for a greater depth and the cut was becoming too large.  The cut in meters Q-P/80-82 brings the depth of the trench to ~40 cm.

The soil in T-R/74 at 40-60 cm, just above the floor, is light yellow-gray, becoming red-orange just above the floor.

The R-S-T/74-75 area yielded more ivory fragments when picking was resumed.  The soil was carefully checked and work proceeded with dental picks once again.  A great deal of white gray plaster-like material was encountered in R/75 at ~50 cm and this was left in place.  Ivory appeared to be coming from this plaster-like material.  Note that the soil just above the floor in meters P-Q/80-81 appears red-orange, with bits of plaster and carbon mixed in.

Work continued with searching through the soil picked in R-S-T/74-75.  The soil was inspected slowly and carefully in order to discover ivory.  After the soil was inspected, work continued in this area with dental tools.

The stones in meters R-Q-P/82-81 and the stone in P/80 were photographed.  These stones were determined to be random since earth and tile could be seen to lie beneath them, between the floor and the stones.  Consequently, they were removed and the 40 cm cut was continued through Q-P/82-81.

Beneath the stones in Q-P/82-81, there was tile and pottery.  Larger stones were also found and these have been temporarily left in place.

The ivory "pendant" was found just above the floor level in red-orange soil.
