We continued baulk walling in preparation of opening locus 4 . Locus 4 is an extension from the two meter by two meter trench that has been excavated up until now. Locus 4 is a 1 meter by 2 meter area to the north that is between CA 70 and CA 71. The soil is the same as locus 1 , a brown humus layer with rocks. The coordinates are as follows:

NE: 62 east / 36 south – 27.29 m AE

NW: 60 east / 36 south – 27.30 m AE

SW: 60 east / 37 south – 27.28 m AE

SE: 62 east / 37 south – 27.28 m AE

Center: 27.29 m AE

We will begin work in locus 4 extension by pick axing. While sorting soil, it is evident that there is a multitude of rocks intermixed with soil and roots. This is consistent with locus 1 soil. A large piece of slag was found while excavating (Special Find #1)

For the remainder of the workday we excavated locus 4 extension in order to level it to the floor of locus 1 and 2 . While sorting soil in locus 5 extension a small piece of vitrified terracotta was unearthed (Special Find #2):

We continued to find a piece of slag and another piece of vitrified terracotta, which we bulk found. A large piece of plaster was also uncovered.
