AM site drying out, worked in magazzino
PM It was decided to excavate another 10cm in the "galestra-like" soil. When this was completed the eastern baulk was trimmed carefully so that a section could be drawn. Also, measurements were taken so that the plaster concentration could be plotted
Work with a trowel continued in P/Q 34. This area was a greyish brown hard packed soil with small terracotta chunks embedded in it. This area lies between two lines of stones parallel to each other and running approximately north/south. Because the terracotta and other sherds embedded in this soil have relatively sharp (ie not worn down) edges, then possibility of this being a floor was rejected. More work remained to be done on this at the end of the day. Beginning level then
work in P/Q 38-40 from 70-80cm with 2 picks was also completed. One litre latte box of pottery and less than 1/2 cassetta of tile.
In P/Q 35 and the eastern party of P/Q 36 work also continued with a trowel to define further the parallel rows of N/S running stones and the east/west running line that runs between. More work remained to be done at the end of the day.
The plaster concentration was plotted, and the west "baulk" relating to the section created by the excavation of G-I 39-40 was trimmed so that both can be drawn.
