Work began today with a pick pass in the eastern meters of the trench to expose locus 6 across the entirety of the trench. Because there is a high concentration of stumps and roots, we have hand picked as necessary. While hand picking around a stump, a Medieval tile was discovered (Special Find #1).

Special Find #1: Medieval Tile

Locus 5

59.24 meters east

37.63 meters south

27.17 meters AE

Due to the very high concentration of rocks, stumps, and roots in the trench, progress is slow and we are still working to reveal the lighter yellow soil beneath the top soil.

While leveling the trench, another Medieval tile was recovered (Special Finds #2).

Special Find #2: Medieval Tile

Locus 5

60.00 meters east

38.84 meters south

27.19 meters AE

It has been decided that the most western meter of the trench will not be excavated as it is filled with very large tree stumps.

After the entire trench was scraped, roots were clipped and the trench scraped in preperation for photos and elevations to open locus 6.

Locus 6 : Opening Elevations

NE: 27.26 m AE

NW: 27.27 m AE

SW: 27.17 m AE

SE: 27.11 m AE

Locus 6 is the lighter brown-yellow soil approximately 10 centimeters below the surface topsoil.

Before finishing work for the day, locus 1 and 3 were scraped. Two pieces of pottery were accidently recovered from locus 3.
