T1 AN Topsoil was taken off in extension 2 of trench T1 AN in the remaining southern part. IN the second layer, down to a depth of ca 50cm a vast number of sima fragments appeared, mainly in grid F3-4 and G4-5. Mixed in with the sima (heads, waterspouts, rosettes, and sima-tiles) were tiles, a few vase fragments (pithoi) and a very well-preserved pieces of banquet

frieze. The grid G5 appeared all on top of each other, a complete width of a tile (or sima-tile?), an exquisite piece of banquet frieze, sima cornice, and three sima heads. 17 boxes of tiles and sima-tiles were dumped. 10 boxes of sima fragments were carried down, 2 boxes od banquet frieze.

The tilebed in T S1, see plan p. 186 , was lifted. It produced 1 1/2 boxes of tiles and coarse pottery, some of it burnt. The scattered stones were left and only the visible tiles lifted without getting into the burnt stratum.
