Locus 7 summary

Locus 7 is still open, therfore, it has no summary.  So far it is full of very much carbon, far more than previous loci.  It is associated with the Orientalizing burn layer, and can  be seen stratigraphically very well in nearby T26.

A locus form will need to be put in the database in 2004 after the locus is closed.  All necessary information can be found on pages 79-97 of this trench book.

Overall Locus Summary

Locus 1 and 2 were both topsoil layers, typically characteristic of such layers.  They held little pottery and terracotta, and most was very worn.

Locus 3 was a galestra-like layer, possibly redeposited, with no interesting features.  It was slightly thicker in the east end.

Locus 4 showed the first bits of bone in the trench.  Also the topography got interesting at the end of the locus, as it was much further down in the west end than in the east.  This corresponded to the beginning of locus 6, which followed this same topography.  This suggests that locus 4 may have been an attempt to level the plateau.  Locus 6 seems to be the 'scrape\' layer after the Orientalizing burn and would also suggest an intentional levelling project.

Locus 5 was simply the area around the large stump that took up all the east 2 meters.   The soil held all other loci type soils, but was all constituted as locus 5.  Not very many finds at all.

Locus 7 is the Orientalizing burn layer and cannot be summarized as it is still open.
