Photos taken in CA42, well area and CA42N.  The "feature" was given a designation locus 11.  The sterile soil around it was designated locus 12.  Mottled soil in meters N15 W9 which seems to be a mixture of sterile and "feature" soils, possibly due to washing of the material down the slope, was designated locus 13.

The stones of locus 8 were lifted and leveling and excavating of locus 11 was started using trowels.  There are numerous roots and small rocks in the soil immediately underneath the stone formation.  Locus 11 produced 1 1/3 latte boxes of pottery, well preserved, including numerous rims and bases, mostly impasto, but also coarseware, orangeware, and bucchero; 1/3 latte box of bones, 25 small plaster pieces and about 40 large tile fragments(except for 10, very small and worn).

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
