The area to be excavated, designated T-19, lies to the north of the North Wall. It is a continuation of the area excavated by Eva Rystedt in 1971 (see her book
, especially summary on ). and by Anne Booth in June, 1971 ( ). It follows their grid system. In the morning, three workmen cleared T-19 E-F/42-43 to approximately 60 cm below topsoil. This level is the same as that directly to the north below the heavy tile fall (T-19 H-I/42-43). The area excavated lies directly east of the area excavated yesterday (see ABI, p. 185-188) with a N-S dike between. The soil was similar to the previously excavated area - full of stones, small fragments of terracotta (pan tiles, cover tiles, pithoi and wall plaster), many pottery sherds (one cassetta), one strawberry carton of bucchero sherds, bones, and several finds.
