Daily Log

June 8, 1988

This morning an area was cleared out for a test trench, to be designated CB20, 4 meters to the south of CB15.  Trial excavations conducted in 1968 in CB15 (see P. Small, Bk. 1, p. 20 - 30 ) previously produced a large body of archaeological material, including a lateral sima waterspout, which may indicate the existence of a building in the area.  A 6x8 meter trench oriented north-south was marked out with a compass.  This trench is located ca. 4 meters to the south of CB15, ca. 5 meters to the east of Cb18 and ca. 4 meters to the west of CB19 (see H. Linden drawing number 16/1971 for the location of these trenches).

Topsoil cuts to a depth of ca. 10 cm. were begun in the northwest corner of the trench in meters A/5-6 and in the northeast corner of the trench in meter A/1.  The soil dark brown in color and

extremely wet from continual rain.  A few badly worn covertile fragments and a piece of pithos rim were discovered in the northeast cut in meter A/6.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
