Daily Log 27/7/10

Excavations resumed in CA 65. We are continuing to reveal the white chaulky soil under the medium brown soil with carbon ( locus 2 ). A pick pass was completed between 7E and 8E to expose either more of the white chaulky soil or the rock feature in the western half of the trench. Soil was sorted into buckets and dumped. While cleaning a piece of possible coil made pottery was found (special find #1) and incised tondo was found (special find #2). A possible burnt tooth (S.F. #3) and a tondo with carinations (S.F. #4) was recovered. Another pick pass was done in meter 7E and 8E to expose more of the chaulky soil in the east. More chaulky soil was exposed, the soil was sorted into buckets and dumped. An incised rim (special find #5), possible incised rim (special find #6), a piece of burnt bone(special find #7), which is similar to special find #3, a finial attachment (special find #8) and a large fragment of coil made pottery (special find #9). Large roots were clipped and the chaulky soil was exposed.

Another pick pass was done in 7E to 8E. Soil was sorted and dumped into buckets. Not as much tile or pottery was uncovered in this pass. More patches of galestra was uncovered. A few large pieces of tile were uncovered. A piece of pottery with a nub was uncovered (special find #10). A piece of slag was found and bulk slag was started. The galestra seems to slope down away from the eastern baulk wall. Another pick pass was done to expose more of the chaulky white soil, that seems to be galestra.
