Work began with a pick pass of the entire trench, beginning in the north and working south.  The soil is dark brown, claylike, and mottled, containing terracotta and carbon inclusions; in the NW corner, the soil appears to be slightly redder and looser, although it is still mottled.  Soil is shovelled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow, in order to progress more quickly.

A second pick pass was completed of the entire trench.  Once again, soil was shovelled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow.  Soil remains brown, claylike, and mottled.  During this pick pass, a fragment of a fenestrated vessel (Find #1) was recovered.

A third pick pass was done, beginning in the north and working south.  Soil continues to be mottled and is shovelled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow.  During this pick pass, a sherd of painted pottery was found (Find #2).

A fourth pick pass of the entire trench was done and soil continued to be shovelled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow.  The soil remains claylike and mottled, although in the northern part of the trench, especially the NW corner, the osil is a slightly more olive-brown color and seems to have yielded less materials than the soil of previous pick passes.  At this time though, this does not seem like a

drastic enough change to warrent a new locus.

A fifth pick pass was begun in the northern half of the trench.  Soil continues to be claylike, mottled, and olive brown in color in the northern half of the trench and is shovelled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow.

The pick pass begun in the morning was completed.  The soil is darker brown in the southern half of the trench, although like in the northern half of the trench, the soil is claylike and mottled and contains approximately the smae quantity of material; thus the northern and southern halves of the trenches will remain part of the same locus.

Another pick pass of the whole trench was completed.  The soil throughout the whole trench remained hard, clay-like, and mottled, although the soil is somewhat darker in the southern half of the trench.  Both halves of the trench though have yielded a fiar amount of material, primarily tile, ceramic, and bone.  Additionally, there is charcoal present throughout the whole trench.  Soil continues to be shovelled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow.

A seventh pick pass was begun in the northern half of the trench.  During this pick pass, a yellowish, ahrd packed soil was uncovered in the middle of the nroth baulk wall extending approximately 1m south into the trenchy.  Currently, this soil appears sterile, or at least contains noticeably less material than the rest of the trench.  This will have to be investigated more in the coming days.  Soil continues to be shovelled and sorted over the wheelbarrow.  During this pick pass though, fragments of bronze were uncovered, which will be designated as bulk bronze; all fragments were found in the wheelbarrow.  During this pick pass, a gorgon hair fragment (Find #3) was recovered from the wheelbarrow, but the piece too is believed to have come from the old T-23 trench and so may be backfill or washout, based on the bucket in which it was found and the area in which we were working.
