In the final weeks of the 1999 excavation season it was decided to establish a trench in the previously uexcavated region of Apper 9, immeditately west of the upper building wall of R13. This treanch, APper 9 Souther Extension, will excompass the salient, unexcavated meters of E122-6/S20-25.

The primary goal for excavation in this region is the investigation of arhcitectural features belonging to the orientalizing complex. It is hoped that the southwest corner of the orientalizing building will be located within these meters, and that the complete dimensions of this building may be finally known.

In addition, the location of the trench, immediately outside the upper building walls, is anticipated to yield architectural terra cottas from this building. It is also hoped that stratigraphic information

concerning the destruction of the upper building may be learned from the excavation of thesem eters.

For information concerning the previous excavations in the Agger 9 area, see GMI and GMII as well as PSII. For information about the establishment of a master grid at Poggio Civitate and Piano del Tesore, please see NMIV 1-5, TTI 3-5, JBIV 1-5.

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
