A.M.

Elevations taken.

Continued lowering trench floor.  At approximately 325 cm below datum (Datum = 27 cm above ground lvl.) it appears that the well stones and their surrounding clay packing ceases to continue deeper.  Underneath the clay and stones is hard galestra.  The soil directly in front of the well was lowered even more and no more stones were evident.  No material was recovered in this morning's work.

P.M.

Trimmed baulks.

Uncovered the base of the well and defined the area around it, revealing the extent of the clay packing (or foundation trench) which appears to be resting upon sterile soil.

All work today was confined to Locus 3 and no material was recovered.
