Morning
Yesterday's excavation indicated that the bronze and ivory does not continue into E-8. The material found yesterday was concentrated in one small area in D-8 -- D-9 produced little and it was only the part of D-8 which borders D-7 and C-8 which produced the bronze and ivory. For this reason, it was decided to excavate meter D-7.
When the topsoil and brown layer had been cleared, the red layer cut in D-7 began. Ivory and bronze were found immediately. About 50 fragments of ivory were found in D-7 -- several of these fragments are incised with meanders, zig-zags, linear patterns, etc. Most notable is an ivory peg ( a short nail with a bulbous head). This material was all found at a depth of approximately 70 cm. At a depth of c. 55 cm, a fragment of frieze plaque was found. This fragment of
"horse race" was found among several tile fragments.
Tile continues to be frequent -- pottery scarce.

Afternoon
Work continued in D-7 this afternoon. A few fragments of worked black ivory were excavated -- this makes meter D-7 the greatest producer of ivories in Tesoro 23. However, the ivory in D-7 was not evenly distributed throughout the meter. The area which bordered C-7 and D-8 produced most of the ivory -- the area which bordered D-6 and E-7 produced little. Therefore, it is probable that the ivories will not continue in their north-west course.
Some bronze was found -- slag and one sphere. Tile was frequent; pottery scarce.
When D-7 was completed, work continued in D-8. D-8 produced a few sporadic ivory finds.
