Cassette of tile: 3 (40% plaster)
Boxes of pottery: 2 1/2
Work continued in eta/54-55 looking for a column base and "floor." The area was overgrown with roots. No column base was discovered, but there were many stone fragments - of the type that the column bases are made - throughout the grids.
The "floor" seems to disintegrate along the line between zeta and eta. Very little pottery or tile was found, but a fair amount of worn terracotta clumps came up.
The topsoil cut was continued in grids gamma-delta/55-56. A very large amount of tile and plaster and a good amount of pottery (coarseware) came out of these grids. In gamma/55 - on a line parallel to, yet to the north of, the northn column bases - a series of very large terracotta chunks were uncovered.
It was decided to extend this cut another meter to the east into grid 57. The area was brought down to approximately 15-25 cm - just above where the lateral sima was found yesterday. Going through the tile box
it seemed that many of the tiles were warped and vitrified.
