Morning

We cleanned down the east edge and corners of the east-west strech of AG-X completing Cut 4 in AA-CC gamma. We find no seeds but nearly a carton of pottery, sone of it fine, in particular we note several sherds- including the rim #3 - of a fine, rubby fabric well burnished and seeminly relatively high fire. In the northeast corner, the extreme north end of this distinctive zone east of the "wall", the soil remains the texture described yesterdayy but is red with large and small, amorphous chunks of plaster. For a preliminary sketch (#6) see p. 8.

In T25, we compleye Cut 1 in quadrents 14-15 delta where we find the continuation of the north face of our new wall. To follow it westward we extend Cut 1 into the 12 Z-delta then gamma 12-15. where the soil conditions are the same. We don not finf wall in gamma or in 15 Z. We next extend Cut 1 in the south digging quadrents epsilon - eta 12-15 to a slightly greater depth, ca (number missing) cm, than north of the wall through thge cut itself is only (number missing) cm deep.Here we are again in dumped earth as the stripping indicates. In epsilon the dark soil of the original slope appears here and rises and here some large rocks begin the south edge of the wall, which we now see does continue into the east, as well as east, edge of the trench. The wall does not present an even face here as it does toward the north but is very ragged, suggesting erosion down the slope. It averages 50cm in width. Cleaning and exposing the stones in epsilon between 13 and 14 we find a possible (battered) antefix fragment (#4) otherwise T25 produces little pottery, except in the dump where there is 1+ cartons. T25 does in the dark soil of cut 1 contain a fair amount of tile.

Afternoon

We extend Cut 4 in AG-X EE-FF 0-gamma, digging north ca. 35cm north at a depth of ca. 20cm, finding heavy burn soil only except in the far east where a yellow layer thickens eastward over the rapidly subsiding burn, which disappears into the floor at the edge of the trench; the yellow forms at most a think skin over the burn in 0-Z and is in evidence only in gamma. The burn is the heaviest and blackest yet encountered in AG-X/ The soil seems saturated with carbon, it is densely packed, still, with pottery, still in a gamut of wares, sizes and shapes. Note especially no. 1 and 5. Tile also occurs but is not as common. #5 is unusual and like much of the pottery it is burnt- only extremly so. Bone is frequent and # 's 4 and 7 show signs of working.

We then dig in T25 epsilon-theta peeling away the dumped earth to expose the slope in which the remains of the wall lie. The interface is clear because of the brown sod of the slope. Here we find a few fragments of tile and one sherd.
